Biography - notes from the life of Albert Karvonen
Family
Albert Karvonen married Pirkko Sinikka on August 16, 1958. Pirkko has been a key player in Albert�s life since. She is co-founder and vice-president of Karvonen Films Ltd. As well, Pirkko has worked on many of the company�s natural history programs. In 2001 she directed The People of Sointula, followed by Tillennius: The Art of Nature, and more recently, Peter Sawatzky: Life in Bronze, among other documentary credits. Pirkko has also established herself as an internationally recognized textiles artist. She is a receipient of the Edmonton Salute to Excellence Award for Artistic Excellence as well as the Immigration Award for her contribution to Fine Arts.
Pirkko and Albert had five children: Ben, Vireo, Robin, Downy, and Ava. They are predeceased by their eldest son Ben, who died in 1992. Vireo followed her father into education, Robin became an RN, and the two younger children are caught up in the filmmaking business. Downy is co-owner of Sonus Post Audio, and he provides all the audio post-production for Karvonen Films as well as some of the field recording. Ava is a twenty-year veteran of the film and television industry and founder or Reel Girls Media.
