A New Beginning

This conference, which was co-sponsored by Athabasca University and the University of Alberta, inaugurated a new version of the Western Canadian Studies conferences, one which will help to generate new energy and vitality to the field through bi-annual rendezvous. The conference provided an opportunity to:
- Reflect on and assess the writing and teaching of historians of Western Canada of the past and present
- Showcase the work of a new generation of scholars
- Chart new directions for the future.
These podcasts provide a sample of the presentations that were made at the 2008 meeting. They, coupled with the book The West and Beyond: New Perspectives on an Imagined Region, provide those working in the field of Western Canadian Studies a new group of articles that provide a starting point for reconsidering the field.
